Interested in joining our team?
The Chua Lab offers a vibrant, collaborative environment where rigorous science meets creative thinking. We bring together researchers from diverse backgrounds—unified by our passion for understanding how chromatin regulation impacts human health and our commitment to translating these discoveries into therapeutic strategies.
Our lab culture values intellectual curiosity, technical excellence, and the unique perspectives each member brings. We believe that groundbreaking science emerges from the intersection of different ideas and approaches. Lab members benefit from Stanford's exceptional research community, the Bay Area's innovation ecosystem, and yes—the reliably excellent weather.
Science demands persistence in the face of setbacks, and we foster an environment where resilience, mutual support, and a healthy sense of humor help us navigate the inevitable challenges of research. We celebrate both individual achievements and team successes, recognizing that our best work emerges through collaboration.
Graduate Students
We welcome rotation students from multiple Stanford programs including Cancer Biology, Genetics, and all Biosciences programs, as well as the MSTP MD-PHD Program where I also serve as Co-director.
If you're interested in exploring how chromatin regulation shapes aging, physiology, and disease, please email me to discuss potential rotation projects.
We'll work together to design a project that matches your interests while advancing our research goals.
Undergraduate Researchers
We are enthusiastic about providing research opportunities for motivated undergraduate students. Engaging in research in the Chua Lab offers a chance to gain hands-on experience in cutting-edge molecular biology, contribute to meaningful scientific projects, and be mentored by experienced researchers.
If you are an undergraduate student at Stanford with a strong interest in chromatin biology, aging, and disease, please feel free to email me to inquire about potential research positions or projects.
We encourage students who are eligible for research-for-credit or work-study programs to apply.
Technicians / Lab Managers
Highly skilled and organized research technicians and lab managers are crucial to the success of our laboratory. These roles involve a combination of performing experiments, managing lab resources and organization, ensuring smooth daily operations, and providing technical support to ongoing research projects. We seek individuals who are detail-oriented, proactive, and eager to contribute to a dynamic research environment.
If you have relevant experience and are interested in a technician or lab manager position, please email me with your CV and a cover letter detailing your experience and interest in our lab's research.
Post-doctoral fellows
We seek talented postdocs who bring fresh perspectives and complementary expertise. Whether your background is in chromatin biology, proteomics, aging research, or related fields, we value scientists who think creatively and aren't afraid to tackle challenging questions. Please email me with:

Why our research resonates with your career goals
We're particularly interested in candidates who can bridge different research areas and bring new technical approaches to our questions.
Medical Students
We welcome medical students interested in gaining research experience at the intersection of fundamental molecular mechanisms and human disease. Our lab offers opportunities to explore the roles of chromatin regulation and nuclear signaling in aging, cancer, metabolic disorders, and other disease pathologies.
Stanford medical students are encouraged to explore research opportunities through the Medical Scholars Research Program (MedScholars). This program supports medical student research, including Scholarly Concentration projects, allowing students to carry out research under the direction of faculty members.
If you are a medical student interested in developing a research project in our lab, particularly through the MedScholars program, please email me to discuss potential projects and mentorship. We’ll work together to design and submit a project application.
A Commitment to Your Success
Beyond our scientific pursuits, we're committed to training the next generation of research leaders. Lab members receive mentorship tailored to their career goals, whether in academia, industry, or other paths. We provide opportunities for presenting at conferences, developing grant writing skills, and building professional networks. Your success is our success.
If you're excited about uncovering fundamental mechanisms of aging and disease while working in a supportive, dynamic environment, we'd love to hear from you!
